Ayurveda History
Aurveda is as old as Hinduism and is an art of healing originated in India.The knowledge of Aurveda was written down in Vedas some two thousand years ago.There were four main Vedas with topics such as behavior,spiritual living,astrology and health.Listed below are four types of Vedas:
Rig Veda
Sama Veda
Yajur Veda
Atharva Veda
Ayurveda was a sub section of Atharva Veda.This particular section belonged to health,sanity, fertility,injuries and diseases.
Word ayurveda is made with two words ayur+veda where ayur means life and veda means knowledge or science. So complete meaning of ayurveda is “The science of life”.
Ayurveda exists in eternal cosmic universe and is believed to be protected by God by the processes of creation and destruction.
Srila Vyasadeva, was a great sage of India who wrote Vedas about 5000 years ago.Aurveda was one of the branches of Vedas.It is one of the oldest health systems for the well being of human beings without having any side effects.Aurveda is an ancient method of longevity, prevention and healing.It used to be a part of spirituality before it was written down.
Scholars say that Ayurveda was originated in India and old medicine system of China and Greece were influenced by it.Aurveda is the only one healing methods without having any side effect, known till now.
Aurveda saw a declining phase during British rule.People considered it a second option used only by people of lower income group or spiritual practitioners.But all this was for a shorter time period as after India got independent,ayurveda gained popularity again.A lot of Ayurvedic schools then came into existence at that time.
In 70’s, western countries also started taking interest in the Ayurveda. A lot of Indian Ayurveda teachers used to visit Europe and United States.Till date, Ayurvedic colleges and schools are gaining recognition and popularity in United States,Australia and Europe.A lot of people from various countries come to India every year to learn the art of Aurveda.They bring back this art to their respective countries.Ayurveda has helped many countries to form their own medical systems.
Physical universe is destroyed as well as recreated periodically but knowledge is never recreated. Aurveda is knowledge which is passed on by some selected people to the coming generation. Auurveda is considered to have a divine origin and it is believed that it has no end.
